Change of plans

Our weekend wasn't exactly what we had planned, but it was wonderful nonetheless.
On Sunday afternoon we were going to take off for Portland without Benjamin!  Our good friends Jeremy and Kristen were going to watch him so we could have a night away.  That was our Christmas present to each other....we're watching their kiddos later in the month.
However, Benjamin had a fever Wednesday night and Thursday but felt great Friday.  He started acting fussy on Saturday morning but we thought he'd be fine so we made plans anyway and packed our stuff.  He was SO cranky all day Saturday though and didn't sleep much.  Saturday night I was up with him until 2:30 because he kept coughing soooo hard and couldn't sleep.  Peter stayed home with him on Sunday morning while I went to church because I have to play piano, and we had to cancel our plans.  Benjamin was still incredibly fussy all Sunday morning and finally crashed for a 3 hour nap after I came home from church Sunday afternoon.

Not exactly what we had planned.

But you know, while Benjamin napped Peter and I ate some Carl's Jr. and a bowl of Thin Mint ice cream while watching a BBC movie on Netflix.  It was awesome to cuddle on the couch and have a little "us" time.  We then did whatever we could to keep Benjamin happy (which wasn't much) until he went to bed.  We watched a bit more of our movie and went to bed early.  It really was a great time together.  It wasn't a night away with dinner at Benihana like we had planned, but it was time together.

This morning Peter let me sleep an extra hour since I had been up so late on Sunday night.  I made French puffs for breakfast, we helped a Sunday School student with his senior project, and Peter worked on our built-in bookcase he's building while I watched "Say Yes to the Dress".  (No, I don't want to marry again, but who doesn't like to look at pretty dresses???)  :-)
Tonight we went over and had a fabulous dinner with the Zderads.  I'm seriously so grateful for their friendship in our lives, it was a nice way to end the 3 day weekend.

So no, we didn't get to indulge in fancy restaurants without having to cut up someone's food, or sleep in a king sized bed in a room we didn't have to clean only wanting to wake up in enough time to get the breakfast someone else was cooking.  Plans change.  We were able to show our son how much he is a priority to us and how much we love him even when he is Mr. Cranky Pants.  We were able to still find some quality time together as a couple showing each other that our marriage is still a priority.  And we were able to spend some time with our friends showing each other that that relationship is a priority.  I guess not all changes are bad :-)

Gene Simmons wannabe?

I just had to post this video of Benjamin yesterday at lunch.  It appears someone is re-discovering his tongue?  Or is prepping for an audition to be the new frontman of KISS?  Who knows!  He's crazy but I love him.

Candlelit Breakfast

Another day and another post about my wonderful hubby.
He woke up with Benjamin this morning so I could get another hour of sleep and when I walked downstairs I saw this....

I was greeted with a kiss from my little love and my big love.
My big love said, "You've heard of a candlelit dinner, but what about a candlelit breakfast?"
He then proceeded to finish making the pancakes he had started.

Yes, even the pajamas with dress socks are attractive when they're making breakfast for you :-)
I love you Peter, thanks for being you.

Three cheers for Friday!

Hip, hip, hooray!  Hip, hip, hooray!  Hip, hip, hooray!
Friday's are awesome.  Peter had gone into work early so was home at 4, we went to Safeway so they could correct a gift card error.  Then we headed home where I cooked chicken curry, rice, green beans, with french bread and frozen peaches.  YUM!  We stuffed our faces and cleaned up really quick.
It's been pretty warm today so we headed out to take an evening walk.  It was so pleasant and really nice to get outside for a little bit.  Benjamin loves riding in his stroller and I enjoy 40 minutes chatting with my hubby.

Right now, I'm watching my handsome husband play with my adorable son.  I'm smelling the spiced orange flavor of my Scentsy, listening to the latest Selah cd, with my feet propped up in the house I cleaned today.
In about 30 minutes I'm going to go snuggle with my sweet baby boy in his fuzzy pajamas, give him a bottle and sing him "You are My Sunshine" before kissing him goodnight.  Peter and I will probably cuddle on the couch with our fireplace going and a nice big bowl of Thin Mint ice cream which may or may not have been purchased during our Safeway errand.  It's a perfect evening.  Hooray for weekends with my favorite boys!

Totally random picture, and yes, Peter can never keep his eyes open for a picture.....but here's the explanation.  Every once in awhile I will freeze a yogurt as a healthy "dessert".  Peter really doesn't like yogurt at all and I always teasingly ask him if he wants a bite.  I did last night too while I was eating mine.  A little while later I hear him eating on the couch and I almost had a heart attack when I saw what he was eating!!  Man, I knew he was wanting to cut back on sweets a bit but I never thought I'd see the day :-)  HA!
Benjamin's learning how to use the toy Nana and Grandfather gave him for Christmas.  Don't worry, he wasn't offended that the word "TUMMY" was on the screen, he's confident in his chubbiness!
Benjamin is B.U.S.Y  And he loves pulling things off shelves.  Our shoes were his latest victims.
This is why I can't get a decent picture of him....the moment the camera comes out he crawls as fast as he can my direction.
What's this I hear Mom?  We're going on a walk tonight?  I LOVE WALKS!
Okay, so I really love walks as long as there's a stroller involved, but you know what I mean!
Yes Mom, I know I'm cute.  You should be used to it by now....put the camera down, let's go for a walk!!!

Happy Friday :-)

Moments

I wanted to "write" these things down so I can remember the sweetness of the moment.

Benjamin is fighting his first real fever :-(  He didn't nap well this morning so I got him up, grabbed some banana puffs and cuddled on the couch to watch a Praise Baby DVD.  He ate a few puffs, watched the show and then looked at me with a huge smile.  I smiled back and he went back to eating puffs and watching.  A few minutes later he looked at me with a huge smile.  I smiled back and he went back to eating and watching.  The same thing happened a few minutes later.  It was as if he was just enjoying being able to watch one of his favorite shows with his Mama.  Normally, I only let him watch a show when I need a 1/2 hour to prep dinner, etc but today was all about time together to feel better.  I just always want to remember the sweet time together and how much his precious smile melted my heart.

I have a great husband.  He's a wonderful friend, a hard working provider, and an amazing Daddy.  Sunday afternoon we ate lunch and put Benjamin down for a nap.  I sat on the couch and took my ponytail out.  I'm always wearing ponytails so my hair gets "kinks" in them when I put it up wet.  When I took my ponytail out, Peter noticed and said "does it feel good to let your hair out?"  I said, "Yeah, sometimes it can "hurt" after being in a ponytail."  A few moments later as I sat on the couch, I felt something scratch my head.  Peter had gone and got a hairbrush from upstairs and was brushing my hair.  Having your hair brushed is sooo relaxing and feels sooo good.  I was just so touched at his thoughtfulness and kindness.  I kinda like him :-)

I gave Benjamin a cool/lukewarm bath after lunch, gave him a bottle and put him down for a nap.  Let's hope he can rest a little so he'll feel better soon.  But if he still needs someone to cuddle with when he wakes up....well, a Mama's gotta do what a Mama's gotta do!
