Traveling to Ohio

The day Benjamin had anticipated for weeks had finally arrived.  We were heading to Portland so we could leave for Ohio in the morning.  We had Marriott points so we stayed at a Residence Inn next to the airport and had a friend pick up our car and park it at their house for us!

We spent Saturday eating lunch at the Cheesecake Factory (yummy yummy Louisiana Pasta!!), getting a free Krispy Kreme donut (why do all of our outings include massive amounts of food?) and then we went to a Christmas Eve service at a large community church.  It was a great service with wonderful Christmas music and a time of candlelit reflection.  Benjamn was especially escatic that they ended the service with "Joy to the World."

Afterward we headed to the hotel so Benjamin could swim with Daddy.  He had a blast, it was a great way to cap off the day.
oh he's cute!  (ignore the messy face from his vegetable soup, ha!)
 love my boys!
Benjamin had a blast kicking his legs with Daddy!
this smile says it all!  He had a great time.

We all went to bed around 8:15pm since we had a 5:45am flight but unfortunately the baby boy in my tummy didn't get the memo that mommy needed to go to sleep early.  So his constant kicking, with my habit of never sleeping well in hotels made for a completely sleepless night.  And when we woke up at 3:30am, Benjamin had been in our bed for an hour.  We quickly got ready, shoved last minute things in our bag and of course, missed our shuttle to the airport.  Luckily the guy came right back and since we were only 3 minutes from the airport we made it in plenty of time.

We made it through security, and though Peter and I were tired Benjamin was SO EXCITED.  He told everyone and anyone that "we go on airplane, I go to Ohio."  Every person in the terminal or on the plane, he told.  Also, if he saw anyone sleeping, he ran over to their direction and said "wake up!  wake up! wake up!"  Oh. Boy.   When we first got on the plane he sang the song "Jonah" as loud as he could.  He was great on the plane though.  He didn't sleep at all on the flight to Denver but was good with lots of distractions.  On the flight from Denver to Columbus he slept about 20 minutes but woke up SUPER tired and cried nonstop for 5 minutes.  Then he was great the rest of the time.  We were very grateful to be in Ohio finally, but even more grateful for an easy travel day with an almost 2 year old and for safety traveling about.  We got our rental car, a tiny little car that reminded me of the SuperNanny's car, and we headed off to Aunt Jennifer's house!  Let the Christmas celebration vacation begin :-)
