First Getaway and a Minivan?

Thursday was Peter's birthday and we didn't end up doing terribly much to celebrate on that day because he spent all Wednesday night working.  Yes all night.  He went back to work at 9:30pm after our small group and didn't come home until 1pm on Thursday.  I took him breakfast though, and then I played piano for the funeral of a sweet lady from our church.  We had a low key rest of the day which was okay because we knew that one Friday we were going on our first post-kid-kid-free getaway!!!!

We swapped babysitting nights with our best friends as Christmas presents to each other this year and it was our turn to be spoiled!  I wanted to vomit most of the morning because I knew I was going to miss him so much, but I also knew he would be JUST FINE and it would be good for him.  So after lunch, we took him over to their house.

Here's our little cutie before we left
We had bought this little penguin backpack at a garage sale last year and it was his first use of it.  I just couldn't get over how cute he looked (not to mention how grown up he looked which I did not like)  He walked right up to our friend's front door, walked in and didn't really look back!!!  He did so good while he was there (or so they tell us anyway) but he did get a little sad that we weren't with him before night night.  It didn't last long though.  To be honest, I probably cried more before I myself went to bed rather than him because I just wanted to kiss him goodnight!

So yes, I missed him but we had SUCH A GREAT TIME!!

We took off and enjoyed a drive to Portland in the beautiful sunshine without the Cedarmont Kids playing on cd, or having to find a paci or sippy.  We talked and cuddled and headed to The Cheesecake Factory.  OH MY GOODNESS.  We had Buffalo Blasts for an appetizer, and split the Louisiana Style Pasta and  Baja Chicken Tacos.  It was all seriously soooo delicious.  And we ate it while it was HOT.  We didn't have to cut up any food either :-)  We also split their Blueberry Cheesecake, loved it.

We spent an hour and a half there which was awesome, then we went to go look at mini-vans in the area.  Peter's 1990 Honda is needing some work and we've talked about getting a mini-van for a long time for when we have more kids and for the convenience, storage and extra space when our family is visiting. (No, there is NO BABY announcement going on here)  We looked around some and didn't find what we liked.  So we grabbed a Starbucks and headed to our concert....
Steve Green performing (there was also Michael Card, Twila Paris and Wayne Watson)

It was so nice to hear some of the songs I remember from growing up and some that were more recent.  All the artists have amazing voices, especially considering they're a little older.  It was nice to do something that's pretty much impossible with a 13 month old.  We headed back to the hotel and ate leftovers and vegged.  Then we slept in and didn't get out of bed til 9, ate the hotel breakfast, grabbed a Starbucks, did some more van shopping (narrowed down what we liked but had a huge laugh at the super sketchy car salesmen), visited a friend briefly in Salem, and ate at Fuddruckers.  Oh man, those are some goooood burgers.

I couldn't WAIT to get back to my little koala though.  Of course he walked right past me and walked to Daddy, but then didn't really hug Daddy, just walked around.  I guess he was perfectly content :-)  Which really made me happy that he adapted so well.  We were soooooo grateful for our little getaway, it was really refreshing and crazy to think that nearly all our weekends pre-kid were spent just gallivanting around doing nothing, ha ha!

Here is Benjamin before church this morning (he didn't take the hat with him though!)

Then after church we went and looked at another van.  Our friend is a mechanic and happened to be visiting the town right next to where the van was located, how crazy is that?  So they let us drive the van to our mechanic friend who said it looked great and was a great value, so tomorrow we're heading back with cash to buy a mini-van.  It's a 2003 Honda Odyssey.  It's the goldish brown color which isn't my fave, but it's in awesome condition and has leather heated seats (the leather was desired feature with little kids as passengers!)  We really felt like God worked out some details for today and we're excited to have found something we're really happy with!!!!

Anyway, we came home and gave Benjamin a haircut....he was looking pretty ragamuffin...
(we just threw sweats on real quick when we got home from church before we realized we were leaving to go look at the van and we didn't realize until later that afternoon what a nerd he looked like, ha!!)

Then, Peter cuddled with him on the couch and watched a Praise Baby....

then he got a bath and is now in bed.  Man, that boy can walk/run soooo fast now, it's just crazy.  I sure do love him and love being his mama.  Okay, this post is super long but a lot happened and I didn't want to forget.  Hope everyone else had a great weekend too (we're about to enjoy our 2nd piece of cheesecake....their 30th edition special with layers of chocolate cake and cheesecake.  Yes, we bought 2 pieces....don't judge!!!)
